Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress of engaging in appeasement politics on Tuesday, saying the Waqf Amendment Bill's passage marks a significant step towards social justice.

While addressing News18's Rising Bharat Summit 2025, the Prime Minister stated that the new Waqf law will protect the rights of impoverished Pasmanda Muslims, women, and children.

“Politics of appeasement is not new. Seeds of this appeasement were sown during independence… Two-nation theory wasn’t the decision of the common Muslim. Through the politics of appeasement, Congress got power, some fundamentalist leaders got wealth, but the question is what did the common Muslim get?" the PM questioned.

“What did the poor Pasmanda Muslim get? They got illiteracy and unemployment. Whereas Muslim women got injustice like Shahbano. I congratulate the Parliament of the country for making a wonderful law in the interest of the entire society, in the interest of the Muslim community. Now the sacred spirit of Waqf will be protected and the rights of poor and Pasmanda Muslims, women and children will also be safeguarded," he added.

PM Modi stated that the debate on the Waqf Bill is the second longest in the country's parliamentary history. He highlighted that the debate on the Waqf Bill was one of the longest in India's parliamentary history, lasting 16 hours across both houses and involving 38 meetings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, totaling 128 hours of discussion. Additionally, nearly 1 crore online suggestions were received from citizens, reflecting the country's strong democratic engagement.

“Discussions on the bill spanned 16 hours across both houses, accompanied by 38 meetings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), totaling 128 hours of deliberation. Moreover, nearly 1 crore online suggestions were received from citizens across the country. This underscores that democracy is not limited to the walls of Parliament; it is being enriched and strengthened through active public participation," he added.

PM Modi said that the world is watching India with optimism and that the country's economy would soon rise to the third biggest in the world.
