Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday dialled Balendra Shah, who is set to become the youngest prime minister of Nepal after his party, Rastriya Swatantrata Party (RSP), swept the general elections.
PM Modi congratulated Shah on winning the elections in the Himalayan nation. The Prime Minister also called Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the RSP, to extend greetings and express commitment of India to work for "mutual prosperity, progress and well-being of the country".
Taking to X, PM Modi said, "Had warm telephone conversations with Mr Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Mr Balendra Shah, Senior Leader of the RSP."
"Congratulated both leaders on their electoral victories and RSP’s resounding success in the Nepal elections. Conveyed my best wishes for their forthcoming new Government and India's commitment to work with them for mutual prosperity, progress and well-being of our two countries," the PM added.

"I am confident that with our joint endeavours, India and Nepal relations will scale new heights in the years ahead," he said.
Shah is a structural engineer by profession, who was a rapper but turned to politics. He first rose to prominence during the election for the mayor of Kathmandu years ago.
In the recently concluded elections, Shah defeated veteran politician KP Sharma Oli for his parliamentary stronghold, Jhapa-5.
Contesting on the RSP ticket, Shah secured 68,348 votes. Oli suffered a major setback as the 74-year-old Marxist leader managed to get only 18,734 votes. Shah defeated him by a margin of nearly four times.
