India Pakistan Tension Live Updates: BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, held captive by Pakistan Rangers since April 23, returned to India from the Attari-Wagah border on Wednesday. He was handed over to Indian authorities at 10:30 am at the Joint Check Post in Attari in Punjab's Amritsar.
Following a recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, life has gradually returned to normal in Jammu and Kashmir cities that have witnessed Pakistani missile and drone attacks last week. Prime Minister on Tuesday lauded the Indian Armed Force on the stupendous success of the operation Sindoor stating that that the slogan of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' is the resolve of every soldier who is ready to sacrifice their lives for the country, adding that when it echoes in the war field as well as in the missions. The prime minister's speech comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The two countries have been engaged in cross-border firing and aerial exchanges for the past few days.
The tensions between India and Pakistan flared after Pak-based terrorists gunned down 26 people, mostly civilians, in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025. Operation Sindoor came as a response to the terror attack. This was followed by a drone strike by Pakistan on May 8, against which the Indian forces defended the nation successfully. The drone strike continued the next day, following which India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on May 10 afternoon. The bilateral agreement did not last long as it was violated by Pakistan by nightfall. Pakistan again launched a drone strike in the border states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The MEA, in its briefing, said Pakistan violated the bilateral agreement on stopping all forms of aggression on land, air and sea. The government has now directed the armed forces to give befitting response to the Pakistani attacks.

"The entire nation salutes the valour of our Armed Forces. There was not one voice that opposed the government's policy and initiative. I have not seen such consensus for any government in recent times. But the worry is that the US President makes an announcement about a ceasefire before the official announcement. Before the PM's address, he (the US President) spoke about tariffs. You are reducing us.The retribution from our side should go through the Parliament so that the American President realises that he cannot speak this kind of language and get away with it. The Parliament under the PM's leadership should discuss this and give a message as it is important even for the future.",

India Pakistan News Live Updates: MEA Slams Pak Minister Ishaq Dar
"In the last week, as a result of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has seen its terrorism centres in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad and other places destroyed. Thereafter, its military capabilities were significantly degraded by us and key airbases effectively put out of action. If the Pakistani FM wishes to project these as achievements, he is welcome to do so. Where India is concerned, our stand was clear and consistent from the start. We would target terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan. If the Pakistani military stayed out, there would be no problem. If they fired on us, we would respond suitably. Till the night of 9th May, Pakistan was threatening India with a massive assault. Once their attempt failed on 10th May morning and they received a devastating Indian counter-response, their tune changed and their DGMO eventually reached out to us," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

India-Pakistan News LIVE: Indus Waters Treaty To Remain Suspended, Says MEA
"After the CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) decision, the Indus Water Treaty has been put in abeyance. I would also like to take you back a little. The IWT was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship as specified in the preamble of the treaty. However, Pakistan has held these principles in abeyance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism for several decades now. Now as per the CCS decision, India will keep the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism. Please note, that climate change, demographic shifts and technological changes have created new realities on ground as well," MEA spokesperson said.
