Railways News: The Southern Railways stated that additional trains will operate to the southern Tamil Nadu districts ahead of the Pongal festival to manage the expected rush. The authority stated that the extra trains have been deployed for these districts after receiving requests from the passengers and local authorities. The Railways stated that the trains will operate between January 11 and 20 to provide convenience to the passengers, adding that thousands of people are likely to travel to the southern states to celebrate the festival. It further advised the passengers to follow the guidelines and plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.

While providing details, the Railways stated that a special train will operate between Nagercoil and Tambaram from January 11 to 18. Apart from this, a special train will run from Tambaram to Kanyakumari between January 12 and 19, adding that a train will also operate between Kanyakumari and Nagercoil from January 13 to 20. The Railways stated that the special trains will be operated to provide convenience to the passengers.

The authority has advised the passengers to follow the guidelines and utilise the public transportation to avoid the rush. The state government has stated that the special trains will significantly boost the connectivity in the southern districts, adding that additional buses will also operate to manage the rush.

The Railways has advised the passengers to plan their journeys in advance and book tickets early due to the expected rush during Pongal. Apart from this, Chennai traffic police on Thursday stated that the heavy vehicles headed to the capital city will be redirected at Chengalpattu and the Kanchipuram Paranur junction, where they will be directed to the service road and can continue to their destinations via Sriperumbudur. Those approaching Chennai will be diverted at SP Koil X Oragadam towards Oragadam and Sriperumbudur.
