'Maybe My Sister Mamata Is Angry With Me': President Murmu Shows Rare Displeasure In Poll-Bound Bengal | Watch

President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the shifting of her public programme from the scheduled venue, saying don't know why my sister Mamata did not allow me to attend the event. It was a rare incident when the President publicly expressed displeasure with a chief minister in the poll-bound state.

While addressing a gathering in Siliguri, she said, "I'm also a daughter of Bengal. Mamata is like my younger sister. She might be angry with me, that's why she did the programme there, but I don't have any grudges with her."

The President also said that she did not know why the local administration said there was not enough space here, but she could see that 5 lakh people could stand here.

"I don't know what went through the administration's mind that they chose a place for the conference where the Santal people couldn't go... I am very sad that the people here were unable to reach the conference because it was held so far away. Perhaps the administration had hoped that no one would be able to attend, and the President would simply turn around and leave... If the President visits a place, the Chief Minister and the Ministers should also come. But she did not... I am also a daughter of Bengal... Mamata Didi is also my sister, my younger sister. I don't know if she was angry with me, that's why this happened," she said.

What Is The Issue?

The issue stemmed from the alleged denial of permission for an International Adivasi Conclave in North Bengal, where she was scheduled to attend as the chief guest, prompting the President to lash out at the West Bengal government. She pointed out the lack of preparation and protocol during her visit to Siliguri. When she arrived in Siliguri earlier today to address the 9th International Santhal Conference, the state government did not follow the protocol. Usually, chief minister and the Council of Ministers receive the President, but they were missing.
