In order to stop anomalies in competitive exams and government hiring, the Central Government has made a difficult choice. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister, introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
There is a provision that if anyone leaks examination papers, he will face ten years of imprisonment and liable to Rs 1 crore fine. Following this decision, many students were perplexed about whether they would come under this provision, so Jitendra Singh clarified the situation on Tuesday, saying that students and competitors will not be under the proposed law to prevent cheating in exams.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the proposed law to prevent cheating in examinations will not apply to students or competitors. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh stated that we have not included the student or candidate in the scope of this law.
Jitendra Singh stated that those involved in examination irregularities will now face harsh punishment, including a maximum prison sentence of ten years and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore. At the same time, if the institute or agency conducting the examination is found to be involved in examination-related irregularities such as paper leakage or copying, the entire cost of the examination will be recovered. His property can also be seized.
Satyapal Singh, a former Mumbai Police Commissioner and BJP MP from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, claimed that as Human Resource Development Minister, he witnessed irregularities in the PhD firsthand. People had their PhD theses written by others; journals were not written by the candidates themselves. There were thousands of teacher training institutes on paper, and we worked to close them. This type of institution ruins generations.
