Puducherry Assembly Elections 2026: Voting is in progress in Puducherry for a crucial electoral battle, with the NDA led by the AINRC and BJP facing the DMK-Congress alliance in a tightly contested race. The Union Territory is voting on April 9 in a single-phase election to decide the composition of its 30-member Legislative Assembly.
With a small number of seats and a close contest expected, a few key figures could prove decisive in determining the next government. Here are three numbers that matter the most:
1) 944,211 - Total Voters
Puducherry’s electorate stands at over 9.44 lakh voters. In a compact assembly like this, even a slight variation in turnout or voter preference can significantly impact results across multiple seats.
2) 16 - Majority Mark
To form the government, a party or alliance needs just 16 seats. This makes the contest highly sensitive, where a swing of a few constituencies can change the outcome entirely.
3) 30 - Total Assembly Seats
All 30 seats are in play, leaving little margin for slip. Each constituency becomes important and even small surprises can decide who secures the majority.
Together, these numbers, the voter base, the majority mark, and the limited number of seats will play a key role in shaping whether the ruling NDA retains power or the opposition alliance manages to gain ground.

Polling began at 7 am across 1,099 polling stations and will continue till 6 pm. Election officials have stated that arrangements are in place to ensure smooth and peaceful voting, as voters turn out to decide the political future of the Union Territory.
