Pune-Bengaluru Highway:  In a bid to improve connectivity and reduce travel time between Pune and Bengaluru, the Union Minister of Highways and Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the government has started the construction of the Mumbai-Pune Highway, which will be extended to Bengaluru. Travel time between Pune and Bengaluru is likely to be reduced to five hours. The Mumbai-Pune Highway, which will be extended to Bengaluru, is a part of broader road and highway development projects in Pune.

Mumbai-Pune Highway To Be Extended To Bengaluru

The Mumbai-Pune Highway, which is expected to connect the Atal Tunnel in Mumbai with Pune Ring Road, is under construction and will be further extended to Bengaluru to boost connectivity and reduce travel time to five hours, the Indian Express reported. Gadkari said that there is no need for a foundation stone ceremony as the construction work has already begun and is going at a fast pace.

Road And Highway Development Projects In Pune

While speaking about the Mumbai-Pune Highway, Gadkari also revealed plans to boost road and highway infrastructure in Pune. “Infrastructure projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore are underway in Pune,” he said. He also recalled how he secured land for Pune airport expansion and pushed for the Pune metro project to start without delay. He shared that he has rejected an expensive bid from a private company and handed over the project to the state government for Rs 1,600 crore.

Gadkari also mentioned plans for elevated roads in Pune district to boost connectivity. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde thanked Gadkari for his contributions to road and highway projects in Pune and praised his work.
