The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a compliant with Chandigarh Police after the party office in Sector 37 received three threat letters and a pouch of suspicious powder, suspected to be explosive, on Monday. As par the party officials, cited by HT, the letters threatened three BJP leaders-- Manjinder Sirsa, Tejinder Singh Saran, and Parminder Brar-- asking them to sever ties with the saffron party or else face repercussions.
Conforming the development, Tejinder Singh Saran said the letter had a Faridkot stamp and were sent by pro-Khalistani groups. He said the letters bear names of several Khalistani and Kashmiri terrorists. The letter also threatened retaliation for the killings of Khalistan supporters in Canada and Pakistan.

Though the letters were received on July 1, the complaint in this regard was filed on Monday.
Saran said the content of the letters was highly derogatory and anti-India. He also forwarded copies of the letters to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a thorough probe in the case. He also demanded security to carry out party work in the state effectively.
“The letter was received at the Punjab BJP office in Chandigarh on July 1. It was addressed to me by name. I recently returned from abroad and yesterday Tajinder Sran opened the letter. He told me on phone about the threats in the letter and a powder, which may be RDX. The powder has been handed over to Chandigarh police and they will get it examined,” Parminder Brar told Indian Express.

Chandigarh Police has swung into action soon after the issue was brought to their notice. They visited the BJP office and took custody of the contentious letters and the dubious substance and sent it to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination.
