A Punjab family experienced joy and fear simultaneously after they won a lottery of whopping Rs 1.5 crore. A daily wage worker from Punjab's Faridkot district.

A daily-wage labourer couple from Saideke village struck gold when their Rs 200 lottery ticket won the first prize in the Punjab State Lottery, fetching them a life-changing amount.

Naseeb Kaur and her husband Ram Singh, both farm workers, were overjoyed at first. But as word of their sudden fortune spread rapidly through the village, joy quickly turned to fear.

Worried they could be targeted by criminals for ransom or robbery, the couple locked their house, switched off their phones and fled to an undisclosed location with their family.

Faridkot police got wind of the situation on Tuesday and immediately contacted the family. Officers have now assured them of full security.

"We came to know only today that a lady named Naseeb Kaur had bought a lottery ticket worth Rs 200 about 15-20 days ago, in which she won a prize of Rs 1.5 crore," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tarlochan Singh said.

"The family expressed fear that someone might harm them or demand ransom due to their sudden fortune. We have assured them that the police are always here for the safety of the public, and no harm will come to their family," he added.
