Golden Temple Attack:  An unidentified person allegedly attacked the devotees in Amritsar's Golden Temple on Friday while carrying a rod, injuring at least five of them within the premises. The incident took place next to the community kitchen of the Guru Ram Das inn, according to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the Sikh organisation in charge of overseeing the temple.

The attacker has been taken into custody by police, along with a companion who allegedly inspected the area before the assault. “The second accused allegedly conducted recce along with the one who attacked devotees," a police officer told The Indian Express.

The identity of the culprit has not yet been revealed; however one victim, a Sikh youth from Bathinda, suffered severe injuries and is presently being treated at the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar.

Earlier, four smugglers, including a 16-year-old boy from Amritsar, were detained by Punjab Police after they allegedly destroyed a narcotics trafficking cartel and found 4.01 kilogram of heroin and Rs 20,000 in cash in their possession.

The accused were in continuous communication with smugglers from Pakistan, who were utilising the Ferozepur area to transport drugs across the border and provide exact coordinates for the drops, Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, reported news agency PTI.
