Punjab Police dismissed senior woman constable Amandeep Kaur on Thursday, a day after her arrest for possessing 17.71 grams of heroin. Her dismissal came as part of the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh.’ The arrest followed a tip-off, leading to a joint operation by the police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
Officers intercepted Kaur’s Mahindra Thar near the Badal flyover in Bathinda, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harbans Singh Dhaliwal. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered the heroin. Kaur was accompanied by a man identified as Jaswant Singh at the time of her arrest.
Kaur, who was attached to Bathinda Police Lines and deployed with the Mansa police, has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Popular on social media as "Insta Queen," Amandeep Kaur frequently posted videos in her police uniform, violating departmental rules. Her Instagram account, "police_kaurdeep," has over 37,000 followers and features her posing in uniform, wearing sunglasses and a luxury watch and holding an expensive iPhone. Several posts included Punjabi songs, some of which mocked the police force.
Following her arrest, Punjab Police dismissed her from service for professional misconduct, misuse of the police emblem and flouting the department’s ban on uniformed officers posting social media reels. The state’s Director General of Police (DGP) had previously instructed officers to refrain from such activities.
Kaur’s lavish lifestyle has sparked controversy, with a woman, identified as Gurmeet, alleging she owned property worth Rs 2 crore, multiple vehicles and a costly watch. In a Facebook video, Gurmeet claimed that Amandeep Kaur was in a live-in relationship with her husband, Balwinder Singh, an ambulance driver. She further alleged that the couple used the ambulance for drug trafficking and that despite informing the police, no action was taken.
Authorities are now investigating the source of the heroin and where Kaur intended to transport it. During her arrest, she reportedly mentioned the name of a senior IPS officer and sought to speak with him. The police continue their inquiries into the case.
