Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday intensified his “vote-chori” claims against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of committing poll fraud and calling on party workers to mobilise public support to oust what he described as “vote thieves” from power.

Addressing the district and city unit presidents of the Congress in Gujarat’s Junagadh, Gandhi invoked the epic battle of the Mahabharata to draw a sharp contrast between the stances of the BJP and the Congress. In his address, Gandhi compared the BJP and RSS to the Kauravas, symbols of deceit and unrighteousness, and the Congress workers to the righteous Pandavas, news agency PTI reported.

The event was a part of Congress's Sangathan Srujan Abhiyan, a campaign to strengthen the organisation in the opposition-ruled state. After the meeting, Congress Seva Dal national president Lalji Desai briefed the media on Gandhi’s remarks.

“Rahulji told us that BJP and RSS leaders are like the Kauravas of the Mahabharata while Congress cadres are in the role of the Pandavas. Everyone knows the BJP first divides people to come to power and then loots all the resources. Rahulji said Congress workers need to fight against such an ideology,” PTI quoted Desai as saying.

Gandhi told the party workers that the Congress is fighting a political battle on behalf of the country's citizens. “He said that with the citizens’ support, Congress workers can one day force these vote thieves to vacate the throne,” Desai added.

Gandhi has repeatedly accused the BJP of widespread voter manipulation during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, alleging collusion with the Election Commission of India (ECI). However, both the BJP and the ECI have denied the allegations.
