Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by Lucknow court in connection with his alleged remarks about the Indian Army during his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'. The summons, issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate III (MP/MLA Court), Alok Verma, came after Gandhi allegedly made these remarks during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in December 2022.

The complaint against Gandhi was filed by Uday Shankar Srivastava, the former director of the Border Roads Organization (BRO), which served as the basis for the defamation case filed against him. The next hearing on the matter will be on March 24, as reported by Jagran.com.

Rahul Gandhi’s remark "Chinese soldiers are beating up Indian Army personnel in Arunachal Pradesh," was a sharp dig at the government's handling of Chinese actions along the Line of Actual Control )LAC). However, his remarks sparked massive backlash.

Following his statement, several BJP leaders branded him as anti-national and accused his family of benefiting from Chinese hospitality and funds through the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

The Indian Army issued an official statement on December 12 after Gandhi’s remarks and stated that the Chinese forces had encroached upon Indian territory, but the Indian Army responded effectively, forcing the Chinese forces back to its territory.

In March 2023, Rahul Gandhi was barred from attending Parliament after being convicted in a defamation case. The case stemmed from remarks he made targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his surname.

A Gujarat court sentenced Gandhi to two years in jail, though the sentence was suspended. However, the opposition accused the government of conspiring against Gandhi, as the sentence duration was timed to disqualify him from Parliament.

Later, the Supreme Court intervened, putting the conviction on hold. It pointed out that if the sentence had been one day shorter, Gandhi would not have faced disqualification.
