Parliament Monsoon Session: High drama erupted in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday as Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of authorising 'shooting' at students during the July 20 protest.
The remarks drew immediate objections from the treasury benches, with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and other NDA MPs demanding an apology.
'Home Minister Scared': Rahul Gandhi In Lok Sabha
Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a heated debate on the anti-paper leak bill, the Leader of Opposition launched a scathing attack on the Home Minister, alleging that he does not have the "courage to sit in the parliament because he is scared."

The Congress leader further alleged that Shah 'authorised the shooting of students' during protests. "The Home Minister ordered the shooting of our students. He put pellets into the blood of our students. He ordered the students of India to be shot," Gandhi said, adding that "the use of force can only be authorised by the Home Minister or the Prime Minister."
'Show Proof Or Apologise': BJP To Rahul Gandhi
The remarks sparked an uproar in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, with BJP MPs strongly objecting to the allegation. Heavy sloganeering ensued, briefly disrupting proceedings of the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju challenged the Congress leader to back his claim with evidence.
"How can you say this? This is a breach of the privilege accorded to the Leader of the Opposition. How can he make such serious allegations against the Home Minister? On what basis have you made the charge that the Home Minister ordered firing? This is a baseless allegation," Rijiju said.
The Leader of the Opposition must tell the House the basis of his charge, or apologise. We will not allow the Leader of the Opposition to level baseless allegations against the Home Minister," the minister asserted.
Intervening amid the ongoing commotion, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla strictly reminded the Leader of the Opposition that members cannot level allegations without backing them with proof.
"You cannot make allegations without proof. This is a House of debate and facts, not for levelling charges without any basis," Speaker Birla told Gandhi.
After both sides indulged in a war of words, the Lok Sabha was adjourned.
