The Ministry of Railways dismissed reports on Tuesday about limits on booking e-tickets based on different surnames, calling them "false and misleading." A railway ministry spokesperson emphasised that anyone with an IRCTC account can book e-tickets for people with different surnames, reported News18.

In response to posts on microblogging site X claiming that an IRCTC account holder cannot book tickets from his account for others with different surnames, an IRCTC spokesperson stated, "The news in circulation on social media about the restriction in the booking of e-tickets due to different surname is false and misleading."

The spokesperson further stated that information on Railway Board guidelines is publicly available and that tickets are booked on the IRCTC website in accordance with them.

Indian Railways claims that a person can purchase tickets for friends, family, and relatives on IRCTC using his unique User ID.
