The Railways has introduced significant changes to the rules for booking Tatkal tickets. Starting in July, Aadhaar verification will become mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets. Additionally, OTP (One-Time Password) verification will be required for online and counter bookings from July 15.
Here's how it works: an OTP will be sent to the passenger's registered mobile number in the Tatkal application form, and tickets will only be booked upon successful OTP verification.
This move aims to make the Tatkal service more accessible to genuine passengers. The Railway authorities have issued a related order to the Managing Director of the Centre for Railway Information System, the Managing Director of IRCTC, and the Principal Chief Commercial Manager of all zones.

The Railways has also tightened rules for authorised agents booking Tatkal tickets. Agents will face a 30-minute delay before they can book Tatkal tickets after the booking window opens.
