Kota News: At least two students died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Kota Wednesday morning. The deceased were identified as Parag from Assam’s Nagaon and Afsha Sheikh, a young woman from Gujarat’s Ahmedabad. This is the second such incident reported on the same day. So far, six deaths have been reported this month. The incidents spark fear among parents who send their children to Kota, a hub for students preparing for competitive exams.
One of the deceased Afsha Sheikh, a young woman from Ahmedabad, who had travelled to Kota to prepare for the NEET exams, was found dead in her hostel room in the Jawahar Nagar area. According to the police, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan. Authorities have ordered a post-mortem, and her family has been notified.
This month has seen the tragic loss of six students to suicide, beginning with 19-year-old Neeraj, who was preparing for the Indian Institute of Technology's JEE entrance exam. His death was reported on January 7.
The first incident of suicide was reported on January 7 in which a 19-year-old student identified as Neeraj lost his life. The second case surfaced with the death of 20-year-old Abhishek, who was preparing for the JEE exam.
On January 16, the body of 18-year-old Abhijeet, an aspiring doctor, was found. Just a day after this incident, 17-year-old Manan Sharma died by suicide, just four days before his JEE examination.
Before taking the extreme step, Manan studied with his brother until late Friday night. The incident came to light the next morning when Manan did not pick up repeated calls. Concerned about this, his cousin, who was sleeping in a nearby room, checked on him and found him hanging from a noose tied to the window angle.
