Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday raised concerns about the issue of women's safety in Rajasthan. "I want to say Rajasthan has been a place of great culture where women were given the highest respect but today's situation shows that it is the most unsafe state for women," Joshi said as quoted by news agency ANI. He added, "The law and order situation has collapsed."

The comments by Joshi came hours after Rajasthan minister Rajendra Singh Gudha's critical remarks on the safety of women in the Congress-ruled state. Earlier in the day, Gudha said his government should look at the atrocities on women which have increased in the state instead of looking at the situation in Manipur. He was removed from the Rajasthan cabinet hours later.

In his address at the state assembly, Rajendra Singh Gudha said, "It is true and should be accepted that we have failed in women's safety. Instead of Manipur, we should look within ourselves why atrocities on women have increased in Rajasthan." Gudha made the statement amid a walkout by BJP MLAs over the law & order situation in Rajasthan.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Rajendra Rathore, had said law and order in the state had deteriorated to such as extent that even the legislators of the ruling Congress were not safe.

In a recent incident, a body of a 19-year-old girl was recovered from a well in which she was allegedly dumped after being allegedly raped and murdered had created a furore in the State Assembly.

This is not the first time the Rajasthan unit of Congress is facing infighting as a rift between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy and Tonk MLA Sachin Pilot is plaguing the grand old party since it formed the government in the state in 2018. However, a few days back, both Pilot and Gehlot vowed to contest the upcoming elections in the state together to bring back the Congress government in the state.

Assembly elections in Rajasthan are scheduled to take place later this year along with Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram. The Congress has also released a list of the 29-member election committee which includes CM Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot.
