Rajouri: At least 11 people, including an eight-day-old infant, were seriously injured after a private passenger bus met with an accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday.
The accident took place in the Muradpur Bathuni area while the minibus was travelling from Rajouri to Dungi Keri.
How the Accident Happened
According to initial reports, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons that are not yet known. The vehicle then crashed along the route, causing panic among passengers and residents in the area.
The sudden accident led to cries for help, alerting people nearby.
Rescue Efforts By Locals
Local residents acted quickly and rushed to the spot to help the injured passengers. Rescue operations began immediately, even before emergency teams arrived.
With the assistance of locals, all injured passengers were taken to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Rajouri for treatment.
Condition of the Injured
Hospital officials said several injured passengers are in serious condition and are being closely monitored by doctors. Special medical care is being provided to the critically injured, including the newborn baby.
Doctors said treatment is ongoing and updates will be shared as required.
Police Action and Investigation
Police reached the accident site soon after receiving information and began an assessment. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Officials said the probe will look into road conditions, the technical condition of the bus and the role of the driver.
Safety Concerns Raised
Following the incident, local residents demanded stricter safety measures on the route. They also called for regular checks of passenger vehicles to avoid such accidents in the future.
The administration has assured action once the investigation is completed. The accident has once again highlighted the need for improved road safety and strict monitoring of public transport in hilly regions.
