RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: During the latest hearing on the RG Kar rape-murder case, the Supreme Court was apprised on Monday that the name and photos of the victim were still being circulated on social media. Taking note of a submission made by the the victim's parents, the top court directed all social media intermediaries to refrain from disclosing the name and identity of the deceased.

The bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, said its earlier order for protection of the deceased junior doctor's identity should not be limited to Wikipedia and cover every social media intermediary. Appearing for the CBI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court that the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will appoint a nodal officer to check such posts.
The Centre further told the bench that any unathorised publication will be taken down and necessary action will be initiated. Advocate Vrinda Grover, the counsel of the victim's parents, also apprised the court about a film that she said was based on the incident and was due to release on Tuesday (October 1). Moreover, the court was informed that reels are being made using Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Hindi songs.
KOLKATA DOCTOR RAPE-MURDER: SC LAUDS CBI LEADS
The apex court expressed satisfaction with the parallel CBI probes into the alleged rape-murder and the "financial irregularities" at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH), a state-run institution in Kolkata.
The three-judge bench noted that substantial leads have come from the CBI investigation, asking the central agency to continue its probe. It noted that the status report filed by the CBI indicated that the injury was accelerated because of the braces and glasses that the victim was wearing.
