RG Kar Case: In an update on the RG Kar rape and murder case in Kolkata, the victim's parents, dissatisfied with the ongoing investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in August, have approached the Calcutta High Court. They are seeking a court order to initiate a fresh probe into the matter.

The parents of the junior doctor have expressed a lack of faith in the current investigation by the CBI and are requesting that a new investigation should be conducted from the very beginning of the horrific case. They have filed their petition before the single-judge bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh. Justice Ghosh has admitted the petition, and the matter is expected to be heard next week by the Calcutta HC.

According to the parents, the trial process has already begun, with witness statements being recorded. They are concerned that, without the intervention of the Calcutta High Court, the investigation could go in the wrong direction. They fear that the ongoing probe might not address key aspects of the case, potentially compromising justice, as reported by IANS.

This comes after a special court in Kolkata granted "default bail" to two individuals accused of tampering with evidence. The court's decision was based on the CBI's failure to file a supplementary charge sheet within 90 days of the accused's arrest. The two individuals granted bail were Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the former SHO of Tala Police Station. However, Sandip Ghosh remains in custody due to a parallel investigation by the CBI into financial irregularities at RG Kar, while Mondal has already been released on bail.

Meanwhile, in this case, the CBI has filed only one charge sheet, naming civic volunteer Sanjay Roy as the "sole prime accused" in the rape and murder.
