Kolkata Doctor Murder: The investigation into the RG Kar College rape and murder case took another turn after the victim's parents told CBI that they suspected the involvement of some others - including several interns and physicians - in the crime. The parents reportedly gave some names to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the crime on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
Making progress in the case, the central probe agency has called in two doctors, who were working with the victim, and house staff of the emergency building for the questioning. This comes after the Calcutta High Court sought an interim status report from the agency.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), the country's leading organisation for medical professionals, has declared a nationwide strike set to begin on the morning of Saturday, August 17. Anticipated to be the biggest strike in more than ten years, this action will result in the shutdown of most hospital departments.
