RG Kar Hospital Case: The CBI team probing the alleged rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has now widened its investigation to track details about any past antecedents of crimes against women committed by the sole accused arrested in connection with the case so far, news agency IANS reported on Tuesday.

The CBI investigators have learnt about several alleged instances of sexual abuse and harassment committed by accused Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, said a source cited by IANS. However, no action was initiated against him. The CBI officers are trying to track down the influential individuals whose patronage saved the man from any sort of disciplinary action in such cases, IANS said in its report.

Speaking to ANI on Monday, Sanjay Roy's former mother-in-law claimed his marriage to her daughter was marred by physical assault so intense that it resulted in a miscarriage. "My relations with him were very tense... They were married for 2 years... His marriage to my daughter was his second marriage."

She added, "Initially, everything was good for 6 months. When she was 3-month pregnant, he caused a miscarriage. He thrashed her, a Police complaint was registered for the same. Following this, my daughter continued being ill, I bore all her expenses for medicines." Roy was arrested by the Kolkata Police, which was initially investigating the case. He was later handed over to the CBI after the probe was transferred to the central agency by Calcutta High Court.
