Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder:  The administration of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has issued a notice to 51 doctors for encouraging a climate of fear and endangering the institution's democratic environment. On August 9, a doctor was raped and killed at a state-run hospital. The doctors have been summoned to testify before an internal investigation panel on September 11.

They would have to prove their innocence in front of the committee, according to the notification. They are not permitted to leave the RG Kar Hospital premises until they are called upon by the Special Council Committee.

According to PTI, it has also banned them from taking part in college-related events.

Senior residents, house staff, interns, and instructors are all on the list. The state-run hospital grabbed attention when the woman was discovered in a semi-nude state within the conference hall.

Sandip Ghosh, the hospital's former principal, is in judicial custody for financial violations. He has been under investigation for allegedly attempting to conceal the murder as a suicide. He also reportedly approved renovations near the crime scene.

Since the rape and murder came to light, thousands of junior doctors in Kolkata have been participating in protests.

The doctors were ordered by the Supreme Court on Monday to return to work by 5 PM on Tuesday. "If the doctors report for duty on or before 5 pm tomorrow then no adverse disciplinary action shall be taken against them. All complaints on safety and security shall be promptly attended to. However, if there is continuous abstaining from work then disciplinary action can be taken against them and they cannot be oblivious to the general concerns of the community whom they are intended to serve," said Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
