Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Amid nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee medical student at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum has called for a massive rally in Kolkata on Wednesday (August 27) to demand justice for the victim. However, they will not join today’s march to Nabanna, West Bengal state secretariat. 

The massive rally which is scheduled to begin at Kolkata’s Shyambazar and conclude at Dharmatala on Wednesday, came following a pivotal convention at the medical college, as reported by the Indian Express.

During the convention, the forum reiterated its five key demands which include taking strict measures to protect women healthcare workers and the creation of a fast-track court to expedite the trial of a high-profile rape-murder case. 

Here Are Forum’s Key Demands

- Identify the perpetrators of the horrific incident that took place on August 9 and impose exemplary punishment.

- Call for the resignation and investigation of the Kolkata Commissioner of Police due to lapses in handling the case.

- Investigate all individuals involved in evidence destruction and suspend Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, from the health department.

- End the ‘politics of fear’ in medical colleges, guarantee democratic elections, and include junior doctors and students in decision-making committees.

- Implement immediate and adequate security measures and amenities for doctors in hospitals.

All About Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: 

The brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee medical student at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital sent shockwaves across the country. The incident sparked massive outrage with doctors from all over the country taking to the streets, demanding justice for the victim and the safety of medical professionals. 

The post-graduate medical student's semi-naked body was found in the hospital's seminar hall. She was reportedly attacked when she had gone to rest in the hospital's seminar hall during her 36-hour-long shift.

The postmortem report of the victim revealed that she was severely beaten and raped. The report also showed that the woman doctor sustained 16 external and nine internal injuries and died due to strangulation.

The Supreme Court, who heard the case on August 22, expressed serious concerns over the investigative procedures followed by the Kolkata Police and said that the actions taken by the police did not adhere to the guidelines set out in the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
