A vehicle carrying 11 devotees returning from Kedarnath fell into the Ganga river on Sunday morning. The incident occurred near Rishikesh when a large boulder tumbled down the hill, causing the driver to panic and lose control resulting in the vehicle falling into the river.
After the incident, locals informed the police and an SDRF team reached the spot to carry out the rescue operation. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team rescued five people and recovered three bodies from the river. Three individuals are still missing and the rescue operation is underway to find them.
The rescued individuals informed that after visiting Kedarnath they were returning to Rishikesh while boarding a tourist vehicle. They started from Sonprayag at 8 am on Saturday night. At 3 am ahead of the Malakunthi bridge, the car became uncontrollable due to a big stoner that fell from the mountain amid rain following which their car fell into the river.
