Saket Building Collapse: The building collapse incident in Delhi’s Saket area has left two medical students dead while several young doctors, including Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), and those preparing for the NEET-PG exam are currently trapped under the debris. The five storey building, located near the Saket Metro Station, collapsed on Saturday evening.

Dr Jaswant, President of the Foreign Medical Graduates Association, stated that nine to ten people have been rescued so far. He added that two medical students have died so far in the accident, while two injured have been discharged from the hospital after treatment, jagran.com reported. Efforts are underway to rescue the remaining people.

The Fire Department received information about the incident around 7:45 pm, after which fire tenders were rushed to the spot to initiate rescue and relief operations.

As per Dr Jaswant, there was chaos and panic after the incident. He expressed concern over the fate of those still trapped under the debris, stressing the urgent need for cranes and other essential rescue equipment. The incident has left the families of the victims in deep distress, with anxious parents desperately awaiting updates. He added that the bodies were brought to Safdarjung Hospital.

Green Corridor Setup By Delhi Police

A green corridor has been created by the Delhi Police to transport the injured to the hospital. The building housed coaching institutes, post offices, offices, cafes, and other commercial activities. The offices closed in the evening. Since it was a weekend, most people were out during the time of the incident.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Extends Condolences

In a post on X, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, "Deeply concerned by the building collapse incident near Saket Metro Station. Teams from NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, DDMA, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence are carrying out rescue operations on a war footing. Every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to the affected families."

She further stated, "The situation is being closely monitored, and all concerned agencies are working in coordination. The safety and well-being of every citizen remain our highest priority."
