Bengal News: With the Bihar election results almost settled, political attention has now shifted to West Bengal, where assembly polls are due within the next six months. The NDA’s sweeping performance in Bihar has energised the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has already begun signalling confidence about repeating a similar outcome in Bengal. In response, the Trinamool Congress countered the BJP’s enthusiasm with a meme suggesting that such hopes may remain wishful thinking.

The NDA delivered a strong result in Bihar, winning or leading in more than 206 seats. The BJP alone secured around 93 constituencies, marking one of its biggest victories in the state. Soon after the results, the Bengal unit of the BJP posted a brief message on X, stating, “Next West Bengal,” indicating that the party believes the momentum will continue into the upcoming election.

Senior leaders such as Union Minister Giriraj Singh also echoed this sentiment and suggested that Bengal would follow Bihar’s trend. The Trinamool Congress, however, replied with humour. It posted a viral video of a young YouTuber saying, “Sapne dekhna achhi baat hai,” implying that the BJP’s confidence may be misplaced.

The BJP is hoping to build on its best-ever performance in Bengal from the 2021 assembly elections, when it won 77 out of 294 seats. The Trinamool had then secured a clear majority with 215 seats and formed the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Following the Bihar results, celebratory scenes were reported outside several BJP offices in Bengal, reflecting renewed enthusiasm among party workers.

Meanwhile, an NDTV report quoted BJP leader Amit Malviya as saying that public dissatisfaction with the Trinamool Congress government would shape the political narrative in the state. He referred to controversies such as the Sandeshkhali case, the RG Kar Medical College incident, and communal clashes in districts including Malda and Murshidabad.

Malviya alleged that West Bengal continued to face political violence and compared the situation to the “Jungle Raj” period often attributed to Lalu Prasad’s tenure in Bihar. He added that a large section of voters in Bengal were waiting for a chance to vote for change, stressing that ensuring free and fair elections would be one of the biggest challenges.
