Eid e Milad School Holiday: Schools in several states are expected to remain closed on September 5, Thursday in view of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, celebrated as Id-e-Milad (Eid-e-Milad). The festival is likely to fall this year on September 5 and 6, 2025. This year, the festival coincides with Teacher's Day.

Looking at previous years, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are in list of states and UTs that are expected to declare a holiday for schools and government offices on September 5. The decision for shutting schools remains solely with the individual state governments. Schools will function as usual in other states of India.

Apart from this, a holiday is likely in certain northeastern states like Sikkim and Manipur. This is because the local festival of Indrajatra is also falling on the same date.

Id-e-Milad Is Not A National Holiday

Id-e-Milad is a gazetted holiday in India. A gazetted holiday is recognized by the central government, however it may or may not be declared a public holiday by the state government. To confirm the holiday status, parents are advised to contact their child’s school administration.
