Amid the political developments in Uttar Pradesh, former District Panchayat President and member of Ward 24 of Gosainganj, Vijay Bahadur Yadav, once again joined the Samajwadi Party (SP). Along with him, several village heads also took membership of Akhilesh Yadav-led SP.
On Wednesday, Vijay Bahadur Yadav took membership of Samajwadi Party at the state office in the presence of SP National President Akhilesh Yadav. Vijay Bahadur Yadav had joined the BJP before the last district panchayat elections. Vijay Bahadur Yadav played an important role in making the BJP's District Panchayat President in Lucknow for the first time.
Yadav's joining the SP is being considered a big setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In the District Panchayat elections held in 2021, the Samajwadi Party won the 11 seats out of 25. Apart from this, the BJP won three, the BSP won five, Chandrashekhar Azad's party won one, and five seats were won by independents.
At the same time, a majority of 13 district panchayat members was necessary for the District Panchayat President. SP had declared former block chief Vijay Laxmi as the candidate for the post of Zila Panchayat President. On the other hand, Aarti Rawat was the candidate from the BJP. Aarti Rawat, a close aide of Vijay Bahadur Yadav, became the Zila Panchayat President with the support of 13 members.
In cross-voting, two SP members voted for the BJP. Vijay Bahadur Yadav and after him, his wife Maya Yadav have been the Zila Panchayat Presidents.
Akhilesh Yadav's displeasure with Vijay Bahadur Yadav increased further after this election. Vijay Bahadur Yadav, a close aide of Shivpal Singh Yadav, had met Akhilesh Yadav twice in the past.
