SIR Deadline Extended: The voter roll clean-up exercise special intensive revision in six states has been extended by the Election Commission. EC has issued revised SIR schedule for Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, MP, Chhattisgarh, UP and Andaman and Nicobar Islands following requests from CEOs.
The revised enumeration deadlines are December 14 for Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, December 18 for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and December 26 for Uttar Pradesh.
The updated dates for publishing the draft rolls are December 19 for Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, December 23 for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and December 31 for Uttar Pradesh.
The Election Commission (EC) had previously extended the deadline for the revision process in Kerala from December 11 to December 18. Prior to this, on November 30, the EC had already extended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) deadline by one week. As a result, the final voter list is now set to be published on February 14, 2026.
The revision process, which initially began in Bihar ahead of the state’s Assembly elections, has now been extended to 12 states and Union Territories (UTs). Phase-II of the exercise covered nearly 51 crore electors across nine states: Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. It also included the UTs of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. The exercise took place across 321 districts and 1,843 Assembly Constituencies (ACs).
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a thorough verification process implemented when the Election Commission deems that the annual "Summary Revision" is not enough to ensure the accuracy of electoral rolls. This process involves door-to-door checks, pre-filled forms, digital submissions, and a fresh review of existing voter information.
