A Border Security Force (BSF) soldier, who mistakenly crossed into the Pakistan border from Mamdot in Punjab’s Firozpur on Wednesday, has still not been released by the Pakistani Rangers even after six days. On the same day, BSF officials held two flag meetings with the Pakistani Rangers requesting the release of the soldier, but they refused to comply.

Despite repeated calls for further flag meetings, no Pakistani official has shown up. They have made it clear that the soldier will only be released upon orders from higher authorities.

BSF has informed the Ministry of Home Affairs about Pakistan's refusal to release the soldier.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the pregnant wife of the BSF soldier, Purnam Kumar Saw, who hails from Kolkata, arrived in Punjab with her eight-year-old son, two sisters and a brother.

Before departing from Kolkata airport, Saw's son Aarav urged Pak authorities to release his father. “Pakistan can take everything from us, but please release my father,” Jagran.com quoted him as saying.

Purnam Kumar Saw’s wife, Rajni, said that her husband has been in Pakistani custody for the past six days and she came to Punjab to speak with BSF officials about his release from captivity.

She said that if needed, she would knock on the doors of the higher authorities in Delhi.

“BSF officials tell me that my husband is fine and that I shouldn’t worry. But how can I not worry when he’s in enemy hands? That’s why, even in my pregnancy, I had to leave home under these circumstances,” she said.
