S Ranganathan, the owner of Sresan Pharma, has been arrested in Chennai following the deaths of 20 children in Madhya Pradesh, allegedly caused by the consumption of Coldrif cough syrup manufactured by his company.

Ranganathan, the owner of Sresan Pharma, was arrested after the Madhya Pradesh Police sent a team to Chennai and Kanchipuram to apprehend him. His company is allegedly responsible for manufacturing the toxic cough syrup ‘Coldrif,’ which has been linked to multiple child deaths in Madhya Pradesh. Following his arrest, he will be taken to the company's factory in Kanchipuram as part of the investigation.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, speaking to the media in Chhindwara on Wednesday, assured that the government is taking all necessary measures to ensure justice is served.

“A police team from Chhindwara has been sent to Chennai and Kanchipuram to arrest the owner of the company which manufactures ‘Coldrif’ cough syrup," he said.

MP Cough Syrup Row Update 

1. The tragedy sparked statewide outrage, with three more children dying of renal complications in the past 24 hours.

2. Medical tests revealed Coldrif cough syrup contained toxic chemicals that severely damaged children’s kidneys, causing rapid renal failure after consumption.

3. In response, Chhindwara authorities sealed five medical stores and sent syrup samples for lab testing, while public announcements warned parents against giving cough syrups to children.

4. The Indian Medical Association expressed concern over doctors allegedly being wrongfully implicated, and some private practitioners are under scrutiny for prescribing the syrup.

5. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation ordered strict testing of all medicine batches before release, and Tamil Nadu sealed the Coldrif-producing pharma unit.

6. A Special Investigation Team visited the company’s offices in Chennai and Kancheepuram, with Tamil Nadu warning of possible criminal action against the firm.

7. Coldrif was declared adulterated, production halted, and bans imposed in Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry, and Odisha, with the company operating under license for 14 years.
