The Supreme Court on Friday witnessed unruly behaviour by a petitioner-in-person when he flung his case papers towards the judges, prompting security personnel to overpower him and take him away. While throwing his papers, the petitioner also hurled abuses against the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
The video of the incident emerged on social media, in which the petitioner is seen creating a ruckus in the courtroom, while judges, judicial staff and lawyers present at the scene remained calm. The court continued with the routine work after the incident.
The incident happened when a bench of Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe was hearing a case presented by the accused, Prabal Pratap.
In the video, Pratap is seen appearing for the hearing of his case and becoming aggressive soon after reading opening lines of his case. His wording while reading the case was unusual; he was heard as ordering the bench.
"Mr. judicial servant, I order you to order the registration of FIR against ACP Vikas Nagar, Lucknow," he said, addressing the bench, drawing an intervention from Justice Viswanathan.
"You are ordering me? You are ordering us?" Justice Viswanathan asked. Suddenly, he threw case papers and used foul language for the Chief Justice of India, before he could be taken away.
What Is The Matter?
Live Law reported that Pratap appeared in person against the dismissal of his Writ Petition by the Allahabad High Court. The accused moved to the apex court against the conversion of his application under Section 173(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) into a private complaint case.
Attempt To Hurl Shoe At CJI
Earlier on October 6, 2025, a lawyer, 71-year-old Rakesh Kishore, attempted to throw a shoe at then Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, prompting the Bar Council of India to suspend his license with immediate effect.
The CJI, who remained unfazed during and after the unprecedented incident during the court proceedings, asked the court officials and the security personnel present inside the courtroom to “just ignore” it and to let off the errant lawyer with a warning.
