In his first reaction after the alleged assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal at his official residence, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that he expects a fair investigation into the matter and justice should be served. Maliwal has alleged that she was assaulted at the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. A case has been registered, and Kumar has been arrested in connection with it.

Speaking to PTI, the AAP convenor said that the matter is currently "sub-judice" and his comment might affect the proceedings.

"But I expect there will be a fair investigation. Justice should be served. There are two versions of the event. Police should investigate both versions fairly and justice should be done," Kejriwal said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha Member, Maliwal, alleged that there is a "lot of pressure" on everyone in the party to malign her.

"Yesterday I got a call from a big leader of the party. They told me how there is a lot of pressure on everyone, they have to say bad things against Swati, they have to break her by leaking her personal photos. It is being said that anyone who supports her will be expelled from the party," the Rajya Sabha MP said in a post on X.

Irony Died Thousand Deaths: Swati Maliwal

Responding to Kejriwal, Swati Maliwal said that the former wants free and fair investigation in the matter after unleashing the entire army of leaders and volunteers and calling her as agent of BJP.

"After unleashing the entire army of leaders and volunteers at me, calling me a BJP agent, assassinating my character, leaking edited videos, victim shaming me, roaming around with the accused, letting him re enter the crime scene and tamper evidences and protesting in favour of the accused, the Chief Minister, in whose drawing room I was beaten up, has finally said that he wants free and fair investigation in the matter," Swati Maliwal said.

Maliwal added that irony died a thousand deaths after kejriwal reacted on the issue for the first time after the alleged incident.

Sunita Has No Interest In Politics: Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal has made it clear that his wife Sunita is not likely to contest elections in the future and that she has no interest in active politics, even though she came out aggressively in public after his arrest.

"In every stage of my life, Sunita has supported me. I am fortunate to have a partner like her. To tolerate an eccentric person like me is not easy," Kejriwal said.

He recalled that in 2000 he took leave from his job as an income tax commissioner to work in Delhi's slums, and then resigned to devote himself full time to the social work.

"At that time I had no inkling that I would become a chief minister or set up a party, contest elections. I was just driven and worked for 10 years. Even then she supported me. Think what she must have gone through then!" he said.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case and alleged irregularities linked to the Delhi government's liquor excise policy from 2001 to 2002.  On May 10, he was released on interim bail to campaign for his Aam Aadmi Party in the ongoing general elections.

Soon after he was arrested, Sunita Kejriwal, also a former income tax officer, took the political centre stage of the party. She read out Kejriwal's message from jail, conducted road shows, and gave speeches at opposition rallies.

On being asked if she would continue her political role, Kejriwal said she was a bridge between me and residents of Delhi when the Delhi CM was arrested. It was a temporary phase, and she has no interest in active politics, Kejriwal further said. He also added that in the future,, it is not like that Sunita will contest elections.

On whether Sunita Kejriwal will continue his work once he is back in jail, the chief minister answered, "We will approach court to be provided facilities in jail so that I can continue my work as chief minister of Delhi."
