RG Kar Hospital Case: Junior doctors, who staged a months-long demonstration against the rape and killing of the medic at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, expressed dissatisfaction with the CBI's probe of the case on Friday following the court's granting of bail to two major suspects.

Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, and Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, were granted bail by the Sealdah court in the rape and murder case of the on-duty physician.

After the CBI failed to file a charge sheet against them within the required 90 days, both of them were granted bail.

"We are extremely disappointed with the pace with which the CBI is handling this case," said junior doctor Aniket Mahato, a leading face of the protests that rocked the state.

"The system has failed us, and the accused have been allowed to go free due to the sluggishness of the investigation. This delay in justice is a slap on the face of all those who have been fighting for accountability," he added.

"We are not backing down," he said. "The CBI's inaction has only fueled our frustration. We will decide our next course of action soon and continue our fight for justice," he added.

Meanwhile, the deceased doctor's mother reacted to the court's granting of bail to the two suspects. Speaking to the media, she expressed her disappointment with the CBI. She said, "CBI did not work and hence those people got bail. This is very disappointing."

Following the discovery of their colleague's body at the RG Kar hospital on August 9, the junior medics began their demonstration. They demanded justice during a hunger strike on October 5 during the Durga Puja festival after 50 days of cease work crippled the state's healthcare sector.

The hunger strike ended on October 24 after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had a meeting with them. Mahato stated that they remained steadfast in their quest for justice.

Following claims of police misconduct, the CBI took up the case on the high court's orders.
