At least six people, including one child, tragically lost their lives in a massive fire that broke out at a private hospital in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday night. The blaze has left 20 others injured, and rescue operations are currently underway, as reported by NDTV.

TV footage showed heavy fire and smoke emanating from the building, with fire tenders working to extinguish the flames.

The six victims were found unconscious in a lift and were declared dead at the hospital, having suffocated from the smoke. Fire and Rescue personnel evacuated around 30 in-patients, who were then admitted to the district government hospital. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Following the fire, 28 people were taken to the Government Hospital, with three in serious condition. The rescue operation involved three fire and rescue units, 10 government ambulances, and 30 private ambulances to evacuate nearly 100 individuals trapped inside the hospital.

Dindigul District Collector MN Poongodi confirmed a fire broke out at a private hospital, and patients have been rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals. While there may be casualties, the exact number of deaths will be confirmed after doctors' verification.

Preliminary reports indicate that several patients sustained serious injuries in the fire, with some in critical condition. They have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
