Tamil Nadu News: A political row erupted in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday after Governor RN Ravi angrily skipped the customary address to the state assembly. He stated that the national anthem should be played along with the Tamil Nadu anthem at the start of the session. The Tamil Nadu Lok Bhavan, in its statement, said that the governor skipped the address due to the insult to the national anthem. It further stated that some major issues, including crime against women, were not included in the speech, adding that the governor's mic was repeatedly switched off and he was not allowed to speak in the house. However, this is not the first time that Governor RN Ravi has clashed with the MK Stalin-led DMK government during his tenure.

Governor-DMK Govt Clash: A History

- Bills clash (2020-2023): The state government claimed that the governor did not act on several key bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly for several days. Chief Minister MK Stalin accused Governor RN Ravi of using his discretionary powers to delay the bills. The state government also moved the Supreme Court on October 31, 2023, challenging the governor's conduct.

- Supreme Court's verdict: Earlier in April 2025, a bench of the apex court stated that governors must act on the bills within a timeline. The court asserted that Governor Ravi’s withholding of bills was “illegal" and “arbitrary". While reacting to the judgement, CM Stalin stated that it was a victory for the people of Tamil Nadu.

- Skipped Speeches: Governor Ravi skipped parts of the customary Governor’s address in 2023 and 2024 and did not mention the “Dravidian model" and some leader's names in his speech.

- Tamizhagam Row: Earlier in 2023, Governor Ravi suggested changing the name of the state to Tamizhagam; however, the DMK government stated that the governor had tried to insult the cultural identity of Tamilians.
