Tamil Nadu News: A Class 12 student was fatally stabbed in Rameswaram on Wednesday morning, prompting her family to stage a road blockade demanding swift action. The incident took place near Sethupathi Nagar while the girl was walking to school.

The Times of India report cited police as stating that a 21-year-old man, Muniyaraj, confronted the student before attacking her. He allegedly stabbed her at the back of her neck after becoming upset that she had stopped communicating with him for nearly a year. The victim was taken to Rameswaram Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Following the attack, Muniyaraj surrendered at the Rameswaram police station. The Thuraimugam police have registered a case and begun further investigation.

Initial investigation suggests that the girl and the accused had been in a relationship for four years. However, they reportedly stopped speaking due to a misunderstanding and the accused’s repeated attempts to contact her are believed to have led to the crime.

After the incident, the girl’s parents and relatives blocked the Rameswaram–Dhanushkodi road, urging authorities to take immediate and strict action.

In a separate news, a cool breeze and overcast skies dominated Chennai on Monday as a low-pressure system near Sri Lanka limited stronger rain bands. The IMD expects another low-pressure area to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22, which may strengthen while moving west-northwest. This system could bring heavier spells, with a yellow alert issued for coastal districts, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet on November 22 and 23.

Light to moderate showers with thunderstorms are likely on Tuesday, with temperatures around 27 degrees Celsius. Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded slight drizzles and below-normal temperatures on Monday. Weather blogger Pradeep John noted that most rainfall may occur at night and said the new system could intensify into a cyclone. Rainfall levels across Chennai and nearby districts remain below normal this season.
