The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in the state of Tamil Nadu and the adjoining areas after a low-pressure system formed over the Strait of Malacca and the adjacent South Andaman Sea on November 22, which is expected to intensify into a depression by November 24. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and strengthen into a low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by the 24th and may continue to move west-northwestwards and strengthen into a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
According to a press note released by the weather department on Saturday, November 22, heavy rainfall is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar islands during November 23-27 while a yellow alert is issued for the UT on November 24th and 25th.
IMD has given a heavy rainfall alert in other places across South India as well:
Kerala and Mahe: November 22nd-26th
Lakshadweep: November 22nd and 23rd
Rayalaseema: November 22nd

November 24: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
November 25: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas. Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram districts and Karaikal areas.
November 26 to November 28: Light to moderate rain is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

For Chennai, the sky will be partly cloudy today. Light/moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at a few places in the city. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 31-32 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 25 degrees Celsius.
