Tej Pratap Yadav was on Sunday removed from the party for six years by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav over the former’s “irresponsible behaviour” and violation of family values. Tej Pratap was also disowned by the former Bihar CM as a member of their family. This came after Lalu’s son shared his picture with a woman, Anushka Yadav, and announced that he had been in a relationship for the last 12 years.  He, however, deleted the post and claimed his account was hacked with the motive to defame the Yadav family.

Tej Pratap’s relationship announcement, notwithstanding that he was married to Aishwarya Rai, granddaughter of former Bihar chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai in 2018, came as a major shock to people, as his Facebook post, if believed to be true, suggests he was already in a relationship when he got married to Aishwarya. The question now arises if it was merely a compromise by Lalu’s family for political benefits.

Tej Pratap Yadav’s Marital Dispute

Tej Pratap Yadav’s relationship with Aishwarya ended tumultuously within months after the latter accused him of domestic abuse. Aishwarya even alleged she was ill-treated by Tej Pratap’s mother and former Bihar CM, Rabri Devi. She claimed that her husband was a drug addict and often dressed up like Radha, Krishna and Shiva, claiming to be their avatar.

Aishwarya also alleged that she was thrown out of the house by Tej Pratap and his family members. The duo filed for a divorce and the case is still subjudice in the Patna family court.

Wedlock Or A Political Compromise

Aishwarya comes from an affluent family, which holds a strong political legacy. Her grandfather, Daroga Prasad Ra, was an impactful Congress leader and briefly served as the chief minister in Bihar. Aishwarya’s father, Chandrika Rai, now a JDU leader, was an MLA from the Parsa seat and also served as a minister. Psephologists said Taj Pratap’s high-profile marriage with Aishwarya was just a political gimmick to reap benefits from Daroga Rai’s legacy, as troubles started brewing in the marriage within months.

Political Reactions

Lalu’s action against his son has attracted a plethora of political reactions. JDU questioned Lalu Yadav's "newfound conscience", asserting that the former CM’s morals and ethics were not shaken when Aishwarya was thrown out of the house.
