Jagan Nath Syal, father of Naman Syal, who died in the Tejas fighter jet crash at the Dubai Air Show, apparently came to know about his son’s tragic death while scrolling through YouTube. Syal, an Indian Air Force pilot, was flying the light combat aircraft in the Dubai Air Show when it lost balance and crashed, bursting into flames last evening. The IAF confirmed the pilot’s death in the Dubai tragedy.
“I last spoke to my son yesterday. He told me to see his performance during the air show on TV channels or YouTube. Around 4 pm today, I was searching videos of the ongoing air show in Dubai on YouTube when I saw reports about the plane crash. Immediately, I called my daughter-in-law, who is also a Wing Commander, to check what happened,” said Jagan Nath Syal, quoted the Indian Express.
Syal, a retired school principal from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, further stated that after the crash incident surfaced, six Air Force officers arrived at their house, which gave Syal the impression that ‘something bad’ had happened to his son.

Lamenting his son’s death, Syal recalled Naman’s excellence and ambitions right from his schooling days. Naman did his schooling at the Army Public School and Sainik School in Himachal Pradesh. He cleared the NDA exam in 2009 and joined the defence forces. The 34-year-old's death has left the family completely shattered, said his father.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shukhvinder Singh Sukku expressed his condolences over the demise of Wing Commander Naman Syal and wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account that the Wing Commander's death is extremely saddening and heartbreaking. He further said, "The nation has lost a courageous, dutiful, and valiant pilot. I bow to the indomitable bravery, sense of duty, and dedication to national service of the brave son.”
