A newly married couple from Telangana created a buzz on social media after staging a peaceful protest at their own wedding venue. Their demand? That Chief Minister Revanth Reddy fulfil his pre-election promises, including the distribution of gold and financial aid to poor families.

The couple, Kamble Amol and Gitanjali, hailing from Mukhra (K) village in Adilabad district, were seen holding placards bearing the names of Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi. Their main demand was the delivery of the promised “1 tola of gold”, a commitment made by the Congress government during the election campaign.

During the lead-up to the Telangana elections, the Congress party made several welfare promises to the public, including six major guarantees. Among these were Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to newlyweds from underprivileged backgrounds and the gifting of one tola of gold to girl children at birth. However, the slow implementation of these promises has sparked criticism from opposition parties and citizens alike.

Speaking at the protest, the couple expressed frustration over not receiving the promised gold. They said that while they were eligible for the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme, a programme introduced during the KCR-led BRS government payments under that too had been delayed. They questioned the sincerity of the current leadership, asking why poor families like theirs were being neglected.

Joining them in protest were their parents, local leaders including Sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi, and MPTC member Subhash. The group urged the Congress government to act quickly and provide the assistance that was promised, especially for low-income families who rely heavily on such schemes.
