With the massive exodus of MPs in the parliament, the Trinamool Congress has suffered another major setback so far. West Bengal's Bidhannagar Police have ordered a debit freeze on three Trinamool Congress (TMC) bank accounts held at HDFC Bank's Central Plaza branch in Kolkata. These frozen accounts, holding a combined balance of approximately Rs 440 crore, have been blocked from further financial transactions.

The action comes as a formal complaint and FIR were filed at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police station by a bloc of 10 rebel MLAs led by Biswanath Das. The breakaway faction, led in the Assembly by Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, alleged the potential for illegal transactions and the funneling of illicit funds.
Meanwhile, Mamata's camp spokesperson, Kunal Ghosh, confirmed that they are keeping an eye on the developments, and this decision will be challenged in court.
He claimed that the newly appointed treasurer of the party is Subhasish Chakraborty, adding Arup Biswas's claims are not to be taken seriously. Currently, the MPs' funds will facilitate the party's operations.
MLA Sandipan Saha Justifies Action
Meanwhile, "Real Trinamool" MLA Sandipan Saha justified the police action and demanded a thorough investigation into the source of these funds. The financial blockade has severely weakened Trinamool, following the loss of the parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha and the rebellion within the corporations.
The TMC has been rolled up in conflict since losing the April-May election to the BJP. Mamata Banerjee's party, undefeated for 15 years, was thumped, winning only 80 seats as the BJP crossed 200 in the 294-seat Assembly.
Shortly after the loss, a group of Trinamool MPs and MLAs began turning on the party, criticising Banerjee's leadership and the concentration of power in the hands of her nephew, party National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
