Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abdur Rahim Bakshi, president of the party’s Malda unit, got embroiled in a fresh controversy after he threatened to “pour acid in the mouth” of those tagging migrant Bengali workers as Bangladeshis or Rohingyas. While Bakshi did not name anyone, the TMC leader’s threat was apparently aimed at BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh.
The controversial remark was made by the TMC leader during a protest organised by his party against the attacks that are taking place on the Bengali migrant labourers across the country. Bakshi’s comments were directed towards BJP legislator Shankar Ghosh, who had referred to the migrant workers as ‘Rohingyas’ and ‘Bangladeshis’.

"The one who shamelessly says that the 30 lakh migrant workers of Bengal who work outside are not Bengalis... they are Rohingyas, they are Bangladeshis. He shouted this. I said it then and I am saying it today -- if I hear this from you again, I will burn your voice to ashes with acid inside your mouth. You should know that this is West Bengal. We Bengalis will not give you a place to speak. I will burn your face with acid," said Bakshi.
In his speech, the TMC President also asked the people from his district of Malda to “socially boycott” the BJP and take down any BJP flag that is visible.
‘Culture Of Trinamool’: Khagen Murmu
Responding to the vengeance calls of the TMC president, Khagen Murmu, BJP's Member of Parliament from Malda Uttar, remarked that these threats only reflected the ruling party’s “desperation” to gain media attention ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls.
"This is the culture of the Trinamool Congress. Their job is to intimidate people. Such statements are happening all the time in Malda now. The district president of TMC often says such things to be in the news. The fear that Trinamool will lose in the next assembly elections is working for them," said Murmu.

Past Controversy: When TMC Leader Threatened To Cut Off Limbs
This is not the first time that Bakshi has issued a controversial remark. Earlier, in 2022, Bakshi had threatened to cut off the hands and feet of BJP, CPM and Congress members if TMC was attacked. “They are threatening that they will fight the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during the next panchayat elections with bamboo sticks in their hands. Another party, which had destroyed West Bengal for 34 years, the killer CPM, the killer BJP, the killer Congress have suddenly woken up and said that they want to build resistance against the TMC with bamboo sticks in their hands. I would like to tell them that the Trinamool Congress (TMC)is sitting silently on the orders of Mamata Banerjee. However, if they attack us, we will cut off their hands,” Bakshi had said.
West Bengal is gearing up for the assembly polls, and such statements could severely dent the popularity of the ruling government amongst the voters. Naturally, the TMC chief and the current Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has warned the leaders of making such sinister mistakes.
