RG Kar Hospital Rape-Murder Case: Kolkata Police summoned TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy on Sunday, shortly after he demanded that the CBI interrogate the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Earlier in the day, Roy had urged the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the rape and murder of a woman doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, to conduct a fair probe and called for the custodial interrogation of the former principal and the Police Commissioner. Meanwhile, Sandip Ghosh, who was the principal of the medical college at the time of the crime, was questioned extensively by the CBI on Friday and Saturday.

"CBI must act fairly. Custodial interrogation of Ex Principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated suicide story," Roy stated in a social media post.

The parents of the woman doctor had claimed that they were informed over the phone on the morning of August 9 that their daughter had died by suicide at the hospital where she worked. However, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has refuted this, stating that no one from the police force had called the parents to report a suicide.

TMC MP also questioned the demolition work on the fourth floor of the state-run hospital, where the crime took place in the seminar hall. He asked who was supporting Sanjay Roy, the civic volunteer arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the woman postgraduate trainee at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.

"Why sniffer dog used after 3 days? 100s of such questions. Make them speak," the MP urged the central agency, which the Calcutta High Court handed over the probe from the Kolkata Police on August 13.

Meanwhile, another TMC leader Kunal Ghosh opposed Roy's demands, asserting that the police commissioner had carried out all necessary actions since the crime was reported. "His (Roy's) protest against the crime is right, but I vehemently oppose his demands," Ghosh said.

What Is Congress' Take On Roy's Demands

The Congress party said that it was commendable that Roy protested alleged cover-up attempts in the gruesome crime. "I thank Sukhendu Sekhar Roy for his stand despite being in the ruling party," Congress state spokesperson Saumya Aich Roy said.

CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty, on the other hand, noted that the Left party had been making similar demands for several days and that Roy, as a veteran leader, is able to "read the writing on the wall."

West Bengal is on the boil after the body of a female doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday. The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee, who was on duty at the state-run hospital, was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered on Thursday night. Authorities found her semi-nude body in the seminar hall of the chest medicine department, bearing multiple injury marks.
