AIMIM President and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that Muslims in India are being treated as ''untouchables'' amid reports of boycott faced by Muslim population in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. Assaduddin Owaisi's fresh remarks came after traders in Chamoli threatened local Muslim families, demanding that they vacate the town by December 31.
In a post on X, Asaduddin Owaisi expressed concern for the Muslim community, saying, "Muslims have been made untouchable in India. Fifteen Muslim families are being boycotted in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Traders have threatened that Muslims must leave by December 31. If house owners give homes to Muslims, they will be fined Rs 10,000."
The legislator from Hyderabad further criticised the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which the Uttarakhand government is set to implement, questioning whether Muslims in Chamoli are entitled to the same rights and respect as others. He remarked, “This is the same Uttarakhand where the government is implementing the UCC in the name of equality. Don’t the Muslims of Chamoli have the right to live with equality and respect?”
