West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday hit back at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for objecting to her ‘shelter offer’ to people from violence-hit Bangladesh. Defending her remarks, Banerjee said she clearly understands the ‘federal structure’ and suggested that the MEA should focus on learning from the system rather than criticising her.

“I know the federal structure very well. I was an MP seven times and a Union minister twice. I know the MEA policy very well. They shouldn't teach me a lesson; they should learn from the system instead,” Banerjee told media persons on Friday.

This came after Banerjee during TMC’s annual Marytrs' Day rally in Kolkata on July 21 said that she would keep West Bengal’s door open to people in distress from violence-hit Bangladesh and offer them shelter amid ongoing clashes in the country over job quotas.
