Udhampur Bus Accident: A shocking detail has emerged in the horrific bus accident that occurred in Kaghot on the Ramnagar-Udhampur road. The bus that claimed 21 lives was driven by a driver named Rohit, who was driving the bus for the first time on this route. According to preliminary information, a combination of inexperience and high speed contributed to the tragedy.
The bus was on its way to Udhampur from a remote village when the accident took place. According to reports, the regular driver of the bus was on leave on Monday due to personal work. Before leaving, he assigned Rohit to drive the bus. Although Rohit was a driver by profession, this was his first experience driving on this special route.
Rohit was reportedly driving the bus at a very high speed. He lost control as he approached the sharp turn at Kaghot. After losing control, the bus overturned several times and fell into a deep ravine, landing on the road below.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday announced ex-gratia relief from the CM's relief fund for victims of a tragic road accident that claimed 21 lives and left 29 others injured in Udhampur district.
According to the announcement, an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, Rs 1 lakh to those seriously injured, and Rs 25,000 to persons who sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The chief minister asserted that while no amount of financial assistance can compensate for the irreparable loss of lives in the tragic incident, relief is being extended as an immediate measure to support the affected families.
Abdullah reiterated that the government stands firmly with the victims and assured all possible assistance to those affected.
